It's technically a lethal weapon, and he is only a slave. One more benefit to having half-elven slaves, he supposes, if they don't have this particular problem.
[But he has it, which means that Yuan doesn't think he'll use it. The thought does occur, very briefly, how it might be used -- but it would be nothing but a lashing-out. Killing Yuan gains Kratos nothing. So, after that brief hesitation, Kratos uses it for its intended purpose; and when he's cleanshaven for the first time in weeks, he stows the blade safely away.
